SRG completed an adaptive re-use feasibility study of a former church complex for the Schenectady Light Opera Company’s new center for the performing arts. The study of existing conditions of all buildings was completed for structural, HVAC systems, etc. and a site plan, re-use designs, recommendations for utilization of the buildings and an estimate of probable costs were included.
The study has been successfully used to obtain multiple sources of funding, and the first phase renovations including the theater and dance studios were completed. The new Lobby Infill is also complete and connects two of the historic buildings and provides a grand entrance to the theatre. Other renovations include provision of offices, rehearsal spaces, educational and conference areas and a thrust stage for live musical performances.
